What is Keto?

Keto, or the Ketogenic Diet is a low-carb high-fat diet. By drastically reducing the intake of carbohydrates and increasing our fat intake, we put our body into a metabolic state called ketosis, where it produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy.

Ketosis is a natural process our body initiates to ensure survival when calorie intake is low. However, we can achieve ketosis without severely restricting our overall food intake, and only limiting carbohydrates. The goal of a properly implemented keto diet is to make the body utilise this metabolic state and burn its own fat as fuel.

A ketogenic diet can significantly lower blood sugar and insulin levels. The body can become very efficient at burning fat for energy – incoming, as well as stored fat. Optimal ketone levels offer various health benefits, as well as contribute to speedy weight loss and increased physical and mental performance.
